"Le duc déchu de Milan, Prospéro, érudit chassé du trône par son frère Antonio parce qu'il consacrait tout son temps à l'étude, a échoué sur une île avec sa fille Miranda. Douze ans plus tard, ayant maîtrisé par sa science les éléments représentés par Ariel, l'esprit de l'air, et Caliban, l'indigène difforme dont il a fait son esclave, Prospéro entame sa vengeance.
