Notes
Notes from the Exodus Theatre web site:
"'In adapting Richard II for six actors, I sought to focus on fathers and sons and their relationships. When you strip it down to its core, the play becomes a family drama. The journey of Richard is about personal growth through loss and suffering. It is also about authority -- where it comes from and how it is maintained. Lastly, it is about inheritance; whether what we receive from our parents is truly ours. Exodus prides itself on being a company devoted to the spoken word. There is no greater wordsmith than Shakespeare, and it is with great joy and humility that we return to him.' -- David Matheson, Director
"We staged Richard II at DANSpace-on-Grafton in April 2001. The show was spare and fast-paced, showcasing the poetry of the text and concentrating on making the complicated relationships of this history play clear and comprehensible" (20 May 2004. qtd. from http://exodustheatre.ns.ca/ProductionHistory/richard_II.asp).
