Biography |
"Stephen Bush has worked professionally on stage, film, television, and radio as a writer, actor, director, teacher, and producer. Born in Washington, D.C. in 1944, he studied voice, dance, and acting in New York City, where he also helped found The Rising Sun Theater in 1966. Since coming to Canada in 1969, he has developed new plays as well as reinterpreted such classics as Hamlet and King Lear. His continuing concern with theatrical exploration led to he and Jane Foster's co-founding Joe's Bowling Academy of Truth, Art, and Creative Submission, where he conducted workshops and directed his Loose Connections and The Maids. His other credits include work with the Atlanta Repertory Theater, the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, and the National Theater Company, and--in Canada--the Charlottetown Festival, the Mummers Troupe of Newfoundland, THOG, and most of Toronto's alternate theatres. His recent acting credits include performances in several each of Sam Shepard's and George F. Walker's plays. In the winter 1981-82 season, he directed The Second Shepherd's Play in Toronto and The Newfoundland Tempest in St. John's. During 1983 he will be teaching at George Brown College, Toronto; Trent University, Peterborough; and Laurentian University, Sudbury. In April, he and Allen Booth will present their music-theatre piece Life on the Line at Young People's Theatre of Toronto" (Bush 78). |
