Adaptor 1 Biography
"Wajdi Mouawad was born in 1968 in Lebanon. He went to France at the age of eight, then settled in Quebec. A playwright, actor and director, at 31 years of age he has written and staged seven plays for the theatre and as many radio plays. His company, the Théâtre Ô Parleur, is interested in memory and strives to bring the major issues that have inspired artists for centuries to present-day stages and to be the kind of theatre that is aware of its heritage and intent on passing it on. He has written Les Mains d'Edwige au moment de la naissance (éd. Leméac), Alphonse (dir. by S. Marois, Th. de l'Arrière-scène, 1994; éd. He has done theatrical adaptations of Don Quixote by Cervantes (dir. by D. Champagne, Th. du Nouveau Monde, Montreal, 1998), Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne and Journey to the End of the Night by Céline. He also writes radio plays for Radio-Canada.
"He was awarded a «Beaumarchais» writing grant for a three-month residency at the Festival international des Francophonies in Limoges in 1993, as well as several grants in Canada" (13 June 2002. qtd. from http://entractes.sacd.fr/acte_11/en_a11/en_acteii_auteur_mouawad.htm).

Notes
This production was part of a single mutli-authored event coordinated by Théâtre Urbi et Orbi and Théâtre d'Aujourd'hui over five nights. Thirty eight authors, each under the age of thirty eight, were commissioned to create an adaptation of one of Shakespeare's thirty eight plays.

"On attribute a Shakespeare trente-huit pièces.
