Adaptor 1 Biography
"Author, director, translator and comedian trained at the National Theatre School of Canada (1973-1976) and at l'Institut Alain Knapp in Paris (1978-1979), René-Daniel Dubois was born in Montréal in 1955. He taught at the National Theatre School and at Quebec's Conservatoire d'art dramatique. Film, radio, television, music (as songwriter): Dubois is a stranger to none of these arts. In 1980, his first text, Panique à Longueuil, quickly established him as one of the most important voices in Quebec theatre. In 1985, he received the Governor General's Award for Ne blâmez jamais les Bédouins. Several of his thirteen plays have been performed across Canada, the USA, Australia and Europe, and translated into several languages. Being at home with Claude, for which he also wrote the screeplay, was directed by Jean Beaudin. This film became a Cannes Festival selection in 1992. René-Daniel Dubois chaired the CEAD administration council in 1980-1981 and, in 1989-1991, he became president. He is currently at work writing a novel, L'Orgueil des rats" (qtd. from 27 Aug. 2003 [Trans. Mark McCutcheon]
